Welcome to a foretaste of Heaven with an extravaganza of Harpists under the direction
of Patricia Furley featuring the wonderful world of Mundi. Renaissance folk rock has
never sounded more magical and alive. Mundi means 'world' in Latin. They play this
old world Mundi music in Central Texas. It certainly sounds far away in time and space.
Some say Penguin Café Orchestra, some say Dead Can Dance, others Cirque de Soleil. With Mundi,

Their Sounds of Music Sunday, March 11, 2007 5:00 pm - Corpus Christi Cathedral No Charge

Meet the von Trapp children: Sofia (17), Melanie (15), Amanda (14), and Justin (11). They are the great-grandchildren of Captain von Trapp, father of the famous singing family whose story captivated the world in the musical The Sound of Music. Their grandfather Werner spent a good portion of his life touring the world singing with his brothers and sisters in concert halls large and small. The children have inherited the family's exceptional musical gift and love of singing. As many parents would be, Stefan and Annie are quite careful about bringing their children into the public life of performing. However, they have found their children's music to have a life of its own as it brings tears to the eyes of a growing number of audiences. With the blessings of the older generations, the children share songs and family stories of life before and after coming to America. With the light joyfulness of youth, they perform a variety of vocal music: classical, sacred music, folk songs from various European and American traditions, and some beloved pieces from The Sound of Music. The children have compiled an extensive repertoire of music, and in singing together as a family, they have created a unique sound. Musicians and listeners of all ages recognize them for their beautiful harmonic blend and pristine tone. The children have performed across the country, beginning with a 1997 celebration of their grandparent's 50th wedding anniversary at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont. Now, seven years later, they're performing live, on radio, and on television, including appearances on ABC's Good Morning America, CBS Sunday Morning, The Grand Ole Opry, Fox News Network, and numerous local television entertainment and news shows. This Cathedral Performance will mark their TEXAS DEBUT prior to their performance with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in April 2007. |
The Cathedral Concert Series is funded in part by The Texas Commission on the Arts and The City of Corpus Christi Arts and Cultural Commission along with Corporate Sponsors, Private Grants, and individual donors.
